When writing any type of essay, even the essay on genocide, it is always a good idea to begin by defining the term to the reader because this will give the reader a better understanding of what exactly you want to write about in your essay.
If your reader does not get to understand what your are writing about, chances are that the reader will not enjoy your essay. The introduction paragraph of your essay should therefore be one that familiarizes your reader with the issues that you are going to elaborate in the body paragraphs of the essay you are about to write.
Genocide is a term that was developed in 1943 at a time when Raphael Lamkin used the term to describe the reign of the Nazis in Europe. Simply defined, Genocide refers to the systematic killing, elimination or destruction of a certain cultural or racial group.
A good example of genocide occurred during the second world war when the Nazis engaged in a campaign to wipe out Jews from the face of the earth ,and in particular, from all areas under their control.
The rape of Nanking and the invasion of China are also good examples of genocide incidences which took place in the 1930s. These incidences and many more which have occurred over the years always serve as a very painful reminder of just how cruel humanity can be against itself and also, the possibilities that can come out of any catastrophe.
During genocide, it is not only the participants who play a big role in the event but also the bystanders who may either play positive or negative roles.
