Published: 04 Feb 2008 Fifth- family student Catherine Duane from Holy Faith inessential School, Clontarf, capital of Ireland has won the top prize in the third annual national science essay tilt organised by the Regenerative Medicine Institute (REMEDI) at NUI Galway. The judges praised Catherines essay, saying that the paper was crisp and to the point and that she handled the argument with confidence. Catherine won a laptop, a trophy and €500 science bursary for her aim. The runner up was passing Cert student Aidan Rowe from St Geralds College, Castlebar, Co Mayo. According to the judges, Aidans essay demonstrated a very sophisticated grasp of the science underlying contractable engineering, and his own response to the topic was both original and insightful. Aidan won a video iPod, a trophy and a €250 school science bursary. Pandoras Box The competition was open to senior cycle secondary students in the Re state-supported of Ireland. This years essay theme was communicable Engineering, Panacea or Pandoras Box?
