Edmund carrell was born on a farm scraggy Springfield, Massachusetts in 1810. He had lot of jobs in his past. He worked as farmer, teacher, activist for the deafen, journalist, and politician. Booth was admitted to the Hartford Asylum for deaf students and studied under Laurent Clerc, Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet, and Lewis Weld for 11 years. He became a teacher after completing his course of study. In 1834(He was 24.), Booth and two other teachers went to South Carolina and Georgia whence they gave demonstrations of deaf education to state legislatures. The legislators in both states are impressed by what they had seen and they voted to send deaf students to Hartford. Thus, he became famous.
