Sophocles joke Antigone is a traditional Greek tragedy distinguish after a civil war. The major themes in the play are the problem of choosing between obeying divine law or the law of the state, which is the cause of the conflict between Antigone and her uncle, King Creon; and the postal service of women in society in relation to men. For the casting of Creon, I would ideally choose a strongly built, relatively tall man with a sizable and commanding section in order to convey that he is an authoritative and important man who should be rewarded and obeyed, therefore making Antigones disobedience even more shocking. Antigone herself I would cast as a woman of average summit with a small frame to show the audience that she is an everyday woman, and not exceptionally strong, and so her defiance of Creon is truly remarkable. Her voice however would have a determined and strong-willed bank note to convey her strong and feisty personality.
Prior to this confrontational fit between Antigone and Creon, Antigone has been brought in by the Guard and, as I imagine it, thrown to her knees before the King. I would have her roost in this position for the start of this scene. At the start of the scene Creon would be standing behind Antigone, looming over her threateningly and looking down at her in disgust to show his index finger over her. I would have Antigone say her response, Of course I knew, to Creons question Did you know I had decreed against this? in a very bored tone whilst rolling her eye in order to show the audience her lack of respect for Creon.
