As a kid Fredrick Douglass had no idea what thralldom was, neither did he know who his mother and father were either. Fredrick Douglass look were open to the brutal effect of bondage as a kid. Witnessing the beating of his aunt changed his perspective in the way he saw slavery; I remember the first period I ever witness this horrible exhibition. I was rather a child, but I well remember it (Fredrick Douglass 343). Fredrick express his feeling for slavery as It was the blood-stained gate, the entrance to the hell of slavery through which I was about to pass(Fredrick Douglass 343) a unutterable period for him that he was about to emerge. Although Fredrick wasnt educated he knew the lifestyle in which his parent, relative, and he were headed toward.

Through the years of Fredrick Douglass life, one of the major impacts in his life is when he learns how to have and write. During his time he spends with the aulds Fredrick learned his basic steps in learning. Fredrick Douglass who has had different master in his life has never met someone who cares to teach him to read and write. Although they know the risk of teaching a slave to read, the Aulds didnt care.
