Seeing Through
The vote counter in Cathedral changes several times in the way he thinks and speaks about the dodge. In this particular story, the narrator finds himself interacting with a blind man named Robert. The narrator is judgmental toward the blind, but by the leftover of the story he discovers more about Robert and his blindness, although, this discovery takes the narrator some time to learn. The story is very descriptive and is told more often than not through the thoughts of the narrator. It begins with his pre-conceived notions about a blind man, which changes to his judgments of Robert, and ends with his acceptance of all person. The narrator must undergo various changes in severalise to really understand that a person cannot be judged base on disabilities.
The narrator is weary of this Robert fellow that his married woman has self-aggrandising to love, not only because of her asking of Robert to stay the night, but the ingenuous fact that he is a blind man. The narrator explains in great detail the relationship that Robert and his wife have formed, in particular on cardinal occasion when the wife had a one of a kind experience when Robert examined her face with his fingers and she states that she never forgot it.(92).



The wife of the narrator states, If you love me, she said, you can do this for me. If you dont love me, okay. But if you had a friend, any friend, and the friend came to trim down, Id make him feel comfortable (Carver 93). This information shows the casualness amid Robert and the narrators wife, which the narrator finds confusing. In the beginning, the narrator cannot understand the daily routines of a blind man. When referring to the relationship between Robert and Beulah, he states She could, if she wanted, wear green eye-shadow around one eye, a straight pin in her nostril, yellow slacks, and purple shoes, no matter (94).
