JOINT LAB: KNEE JOINT Tayler Mitchell ANAT 101 Prof. M. Lawlor Friday December 10th, 2010 Objective: The social occasion of this lab is to recreate and understand the concepts and structural build of the kind-hearted bodys most complex joint, the tibiofemoral ( knee joint) joint. The tibiofrmoral joint is said to be a hinge joint, merely arousenot be classified as a hinge joint alone due to the joints opposite capabilities. This joint in particular has the ability to move late as well as have a clarified rotation. The tibiofemoral joint, due to its ability to move in different directions, can be classified as a gliding patellofemoral joint, inwardness it is created from the patella and patellar ligament moving in sync with femur. This in turn creates a joint that is flexible in movement, but also prone to injury. The tibiofemoral joint is created by a crew of bone, ligaments and cartilage (also referred to as meniscus). This joint has both extracapsular and intracapsular ligaments. There are only two intracapsular ligaments which lie within the joint. They are called the earlier cruciate ligament (ACL) and posterior cruciate ligament (PCL).

The ACLs purpose is to prevent hyperextension when the knee is fully extended, whereas the PCL stops the tibia from being displaced and the femur from skid off of the tibia. In recreating this complex joint, one will be able to understand the movements as well as components that sword up the knee. Materials: 1. White Clay 2. Glue 3. Flat Magnet 4. Scissors 5.
